Prugundy (Prugundian: 𐐑𐐸𐐳𐑀𐐬𐑍𐐩, Prhügoñë; IPA: /pʁyɡoɲə/) is a sovereign state in Southern Meran. It borders Gosaria and Qym to the north, Thyon to the west, Chiyan to the southwest, and Bermiza and Mandine to the east.

History

• Neolitic Ottelia to the Bronze Age (6000 BCE to 2000 BCE): Early societies form as well as writing. It is a cradle of civilization in Meran.
• Ottelian civilization (2000 BCE to 350 BCE): One of the leading civilizations in Meran during the Iron Age. Rival to the Cunerian Empire (in Thyon).
• Ottelian Empire (350 BCE to 296 CE): Rules most of Meran at this time, including Byrak (Northern Meran), spreading its culture and religion: Scildism. The Empire collapses after the Sukats invade from the west (around present-day Holaria).
• Duchy (296 CE to 1307 CE): A duchy forms around the ransacked and partially destroyed Ottelian capital of Dâmõpẽ. It is part of various Ottelian kingdoms for a while.
• Kingdom (1307 CE to 2174 CE): Becomes its own kingdom and wages wars against the Gosarian Empire to its north, as well as successor states such as Qym. Becomes a naval power and rival to Thyon, its main enemy, while consolidating vassals in former Ottelia.
• Revolution (2174 CE): Against absolutism. Qym supports the absolute monarchy while Thyon supports the revolutionaries (a mix of republicans and constitutionalists).
• Civil War (2174 CE to 2192 CE): Qym lends military support to the Prugundian monarchy. Republican revolutionaries win in the end.
• Early Republic (2192 CE to 2340 CE): Disregards old enmity with Thyon and becomes its ally against the growing threat of Qym, siding with Thyon during the 23rd century wars (Qymo–Thyonese Wars, OCEAN War and Holaro–Thyonese War). Switches alliances in the 24th century, forming the Great Alliance with Holaria (Meran), Riuden (Daroch) and Zandomia (Daroch), and fighting on their side against Qym and Thyon during the Boreal War, ultimately being defeated.
• Post-Boreal War era (2340 CE to now): Is occupied for 11 years by Gosaria, Qym and Thyon until the Treaty of Podrika took effect on DAY MONTH 2351.

Geography

Prugundy borders Gosaria and Qym to the north, Thyon to the west, Chiyan and COUNTRY4 to the southwest, and Bermiza and Mandine to the east.

It has sea access to the south and southeast.

Politics

Prugundy is a unitary presidential republic. Its head of state and head of government is a president, elected by instant-runoff voting, along with a vice-president in a dual ticket. Its unicameral legislature is the National Assembly. The National Assembly is elected using the closed list method of party-list proportional representation. The 349 seats are then assigned proportionally to each party, provided that the party vote count met the 0.3% electoral threshold. The D'Hondt formula is used for apportionment. Parties may form electoral alliances and run as a single unified party so as to gain enough collective votes to meet the threshold. The extremely low threshold makes representation of minor parties very likely under the Prugundian electoral system than many comparable systems used in other countries on Basis. As of the 2440 Prugundian legislative election, there are 47 political parties represented in the National Assembly forming 9 coalitions.

Before the Boreal War, Prugundy's electoral system followed a first-past-the-post model. However, after Prugundy's defeat, subsequent occupation and the ratification of the Treaty of Podrika, the electoral system was changed to proportional representation by the Nagur Pact victors and imposed on Prugundy without consultation with its population. While the postwar electoral system has been hailed as being more democratic and representative of the popular will, it was also designed with the admitted goal of "dividing the Prugundian political society to the point where governments are never strong or particularly stable", as stated by Bacha XVI, the King of Qym. Consequently, electoral reform has been a recurrent theme in Prugundian politics in the postwar era.

Military

Under the Treaty of Podrika, Prugundy's military is restricted to a specific size. As of 2440, the Prugundian Armed Forces are well below that threshold, comprising a total of 190,000 personnel, of which 120,000 are active.

Economy

Prugundy has an advanced mixed economy that is the third-largest in Meran and ?th-largest on Basis by purchasing power parity-adjusted GDP.

Its main trade partners are Qym and Thyon.

Scildism is the main religion, mainly or partly originating in Ottelia, of which Prugundy is the successor state. Prugundy is a secular state and freedom of religion is guaranteed by the constitution.

Culture

The culture of Prugundy, a country in Southern Meran, encompasses first and foremost the observable cultural practices of its inhabitants. It also reflects Prugundy's history since antiquity as one of the greatest cultural centers of Meran. Marked by the Auser and Byrakan civilizations, the country was the center of the Ottelian Empire and of Scildism, and simultaneously, it was the cradle of humanism. Its national animal is the red fox, present on both its flag and its coat of arms.
