The Byrakan Wars were a series of military conflicts fought between the Ottelians and the Byrakans between 455 BCE and 425 BCE. During these wars, the Ottelians subdued Byrak, a vast territory stretching from the GEOGRAPHIC PLACE to the GEOGRAPHIC PLACE in Northern Meran. The wars culminated in the Battle of Usuf in 425 BCE, during the Third Byrakan War, where the Ottelians crushed organized Byrakan resistance. This decisive Ottelian victory led to the expansion of Ottelia over all of Byrak.

Byrak had great military importance for the Ottelians, who had suffered several attacks from barbarian tribes originating from both Byrak and other northern regions of Meran. The conquest of these territories allowed Ottelia to secure the natural border of MOUNTAIN CHAIN (?).

According to OTTELIAN HISTORIAN, the results of the wars were 500 conquered cities, 250 subdued tribes, 300,000 prisoners sold as slaves and another 700,000 killed in battle. It is estimated that the Byrakan population was about 3 to 5 million inhabitants before the war. As a result, the Byrakan Wars are considered one of the deadliest conflicts by percentage of a country's population lost.
