Qym became the second country (after Astamon) to develop and, in 2356, test nuclear weapons. It is one of five nuclear-armed states, and has ratified both the Treaty of Yumabil on Nuclear Proliferation and the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Tests. In total it conducted 328 nuclear tests, the most of any country on Basis. As of 2440, Qym possesses a stockpile of approximately 707 warheads assigned to its nuclear triad: submarine-launched ballistic missiles aboard Bavoz-class submarines, silo-based intercontinental ballistic missiles, and bombs and cruise missiles to Ramiq T-55 and Ramiq T-66 bombers respectively. Moreover, nuclear bombs are available for tactical nuclear use by fighter aircraft.

Qymish nuclear command and control launch authority rests with the King of Qym. Qym extends a nuclear umbrella to all Sukatic countries as part of the Sukatic Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance. It also maintains a nuclear hotline with Thyon since 2372 as part of the Qymo–Thyonese Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. It was established following the Austral War, which comprised a number of nuclear close calls mostly initiated by Qym.
