Ranks

The ordinary Qymish nobility is divided into six ranks. From highest to lowest, these are: duke, marquess, count, viscount, baron, and lord, as well as the feminine forms of these titles.

Prince/Princess

Princes and princesses are direct members of the royal family's male lines, or acquire the title through marriage. It is to be noted that only women, in other words wives of princes, can be granted the title of princess through marriage, and they can only use that title if they take their husband's full name.

Duke/Duchess

Marquess/Marchioness

Count/Countess

Viscount/Viscountess

Baron/Baroness

Lord/Lady

Lords and ladies are the consolidated title for all hereditary nobility in Qym besides princes and princesses, as established by the Fundamental Law of Qym. U/C

Sir/Dame

People who received a knighthood are referred to as sir or dame. U/C

Succession

Succession to Qymish noble titles is hereditary for princes and lords, but not automatic. Other titles are not hereditary, including dukes, marquess, counts, viscounts, and barons, which are all nobility titles granted by the King of Qym to the lords or ladies who are appointed to be the executive of various administrative divisions, as established by the Fundamental Law of Qym. Knighthoods are also not hereditary, as they are based upon the merit of an individual's life achievements, and not their descendants.
