Chiyan (IPA: /tʃian/), officially the State of Chiyan, is a country in the continent of Meran on the planet Basis. It borders Thyon to the north, Prugundy to the east, and Salmony to the south. Chiyan is a unitary constitutional monarchy, led by the Grand Duke. The capital and largest city is Vulapois. TBD

History

• Part of Cunerian Empire until fall
• Series of independent polities, fall under Ottelian influence at various periods.
• Duchy of Chiyan forms around 1000 CE in the remains of the Cunerian settlements in the area.
• Duchy is variously controlled by Thyon, Prugundy and SOUTH until circa 1800 CE.
• Duchy comes under Thyonese suzerainty (1880 CE), incorporated into the Empire of Thyon for a short time.
• Thyo-Prugundian War (1888-1897 CE): in part over control of Chiyan, fought mostly in Chiyan. Following war, Thyon and Prugunday agree to a condominium for Chiyan, jointly controlled by both kingdoms.
• First War of Chiyanese Succession (1919 CE), Thyon and Prugundy again fight over Chiyan. Thyon backing the moderate cadet branch of the House of Ga, Prugundy backing the absolutist House of Druny. Prugundry wins quickly; Results in installation of absolutists, now independent, but allied with Prugundy and Grand Duchy is established.
• Chiyanese Civil War (1950) - moderates and Parliamentarians revolt against absolutism of Grand Duke Charni. Thyon backs the moderates and Prugundy backs the Grand Duke. Moderates win. Thyon ensures restoration of cadet branch as Grand Duke. Chiyan becomes a constitutional monarchy in the Thyonese model.
• Grand Duchess Ada dies in 2100 without any eligible heirs, ending the cadet branch of the House of Ga. Archon Adsei ?? of Thyon succeeds as Grand Duke as senior member of House of Ga. Prugundy invades, but is repelled by Chiyanese forces. Chiyan enters a personal union with Thyon. Consideration is given to incorporating the Grand Duchy into the Empire of Thyon, but the constitutional convention votes down the proposal.
• Prugundian Revolution and Prugundian Civil War: Chiyan supports parliamentarians and constitutionalists alongside Thyon.
• Prugundy switches allegiance away from Thyon, and therefore Chiyan, in 24th century. After joining the Great Alliance, Prugundy makes demands for Chiyanese territory and less Thyonese influence in Chiyan. Initially, Chiyan rebuffs Prugundian attempts, but Prugundy begins periodically blockading Chiyanese land exports into Prugundy. Prugundy also periodically harasses shipping from Chiyanese ports over the next 5 years.
• Prugundy again pressures Thyon over Chiyan, primarily over Prugundian-speaking territories. Archon DUDE vacillates between calling Prugundy's bluff and appeasement. After no further engagement, Prugundy crosses into the Rhampois Strip, a narrow section of land across the River Phala from Chiyan but still Chiyanese territory. In response, Archon DUDE who sought to deescalate for fear of further Prugundian aggression, abdicates as Grand Duke of Chiyan, ending the personal union, in favour of his great uncle. Prugundy withdraws from the strip. Motivation for further alignment of Thyon and Chiyan to the Nagur Pact.
• In wake of personal union ending and new Grand Duke, in 2326 Chiyan's National Assembly passes further reforms limiting role of Grand Duke and enhancing role of the executive government. Prime Minister DUDE is now partly responsible for conduct of foreign affairs. While the Grand Duke remained primary representative, consent from Cabinet is required.
• Chiyan engages in a military build up over fears of Prugundian irredentism, seeks military assurances from Thyon. Thyon and Chiyan form the Constitutional Alliance in 2327. Chiyan then joins the Nagur Pact alongside Thyon and Tamodia in 2329.
• Prugundy invades Chiyan at the outset of the Boreal War. Prungundy mirrors Holaria in only occupying Prugundian-speaking territory, after initially advancing on Vulapois. Chiyan mobilises to repulse the Prugundian invasion, but becomes bogged down in the west of the country. Prugundy initially seeks to deescalate, withdrawing to the Rhampois Strip, to avoid a Qymish and Thyonese mobilisation. After Holaria invades the rest of Tamodia in 2334?, Qym and Thyon fully mobilise in response. Prugundy then mobilises again and occupies the majority of Chiyan at the conclusion of the First Battle of Chiyan.
• Thyon and the Chiyanese-in-exile, invade occupied Chiyan from the north in 2336, beginning the Second Battle of Chiyan and sees Chiyan enter a state of total war. Vulapois is liberated in 2338. Thyonese forces push Prugundians out of Chiyan by the close of 2339.
• Post-War reconstruction, restoriation of Chiyanese government, Thyon and Qym support.
• Constitutional reform in 25th century to reduce role of upper house to review body.
